Education – Improvements in 5 ZP Schools of Rural Area

Now days, we are seeing reduction in student count in many ZP schools. These schools are facing challenges in attracting students – which are due to multiple reason. One such reason is the very image of ZP schools. The remote ZP schools are challenged by English medium CBSE schools. The infrastructure, building conditions, furniture, toilet facilities etc. in these schools are not up to the mark.

Sansthaan has a strong belief that a face-lift of these ZP schools will help in attracting new students and retaining old ones which will ultimately contribute to literacy percentage of our rural population. We identified few such schools and decided to go ahead with this initiative.  We then approached respective school authorities, though the idea was appreciated by the school authorities, it took multiple rounds of discussions before we finally got a go ahead from them. The village we opted is a remote village in Mauda tahsil and school required lots of infrastructural adjustments. After rigorous planning and forming up separate teams for different categories (civil work, sanitation, painting, beautification, furniture, library, books etc..), the work was initiated in phased manner. As a part of this initiative following activities were primarily accomplished:

  1. Infrastructure improvement – civil work in the school buildings
  2. Exterior Painting & beautification work
  3. Class room interiors
  4. Sanitation work and Toilet construction for Students and Staff
  5. Improvement in kitchen area to bring hygiene in food intake
  6. Provided new study furniture for students (desks & chairs) and for the library
  7. Improve the Play area/ground in and around school premises

The work to face lift ZP schools premises is now successfully completed. Now these schools have new exterior, more pleasant from inside the class rooms, new & hygienic toilets/sanitation for kids & staff, new attractive furniture for students, library furniture and books rack etc. In all these activities, the school authorities were really supportive & helpful for this noble cause.

The project has benefited 5 ZP schools which has around 2000 students as of now. It took around 2 months to complete the whole project with a cost of around 50 Lacs. This time we were fortunate to get funding from the a large Corporate house and the work was done under CSR activity.
